“A long friendship”
Part 1
Do you know anything about Turkey?
How about the Turkish March or Turkish ice cream?
The country is in both Asia and Europe.
Ararat, which is famous for Noah’s ark, is the highest mountain in Turkey.
It’s over 5,000 meters high.
Turkish people enjoy a lot of sports.
In big cities , you can even find judo or karate training centers.
Part2
Many Turkish people like Japan. Why?
In 1890, a big ship from Turkey sank off the coast of Oshima, Wakayama.
The ship had come to Japan to build friendship between the two countries.
The village people climbed up t high cliff with the injured crew on their backs.
They held the crew tightly to warm them up.
The story is still told in many Turkish school textbooks.
Part 3
About one hundred years after the incident, a moving story was reported.
During the Iran-―Iraq War, no people could enter or leave Iran.
It was a Turkish airplane that flew to Iran and rescued many Japanese at this difficult time.
People with different cultures have much to learn from each other.
By learning from each other, we can show respect and live together in harmony.
